Since 1966, Vans has stood for authenticity in lifestyle, music and action sports through their footwear. Over the years, the brand has gone through different owners and is now owned by VF Corp. Under the umbrella lies Pro-Tec which was founded in 1973 and is the original action sports protective gear brand. The same interests that started the company have continued to grow with the name and the expansion of Vans into clothing, footwear and snowboard gear. I’ve owned Vans boots for a decade for their durability and worn their shoes for even longer, every step of the way. It may look like your typical office building from the outside but once you get closer the Vans checkered image is all over the headquarters in Cypress, CA. Upon entering the doors at Vans, a huge Vans photograph greets you with a pleasant reminder of the history behind the company and the development of the brand through the So-Cal skateboarding scene in the 70’s. We waited in the lobby for our tour guide, Vans/Pro Tec product developer Jesse For the past 18 years, Vans has utilized their 45 year footwear experience to build snowboard boots that are a reflection of […]

For the past 18 years, Vans has been utilizing their 45 year footwear experience to build snowboard boots that are a reflection of Vans deep boardsports heritage. Vans understands the need to ride but also a boot that will perform for you so you can enjoy each turn. The boots continue to be developed and durable to the rider looking for a long season of winter. Vans brings to the table the flex control system with removable tongue stiffeners that allow riders to custom tune their boot flex. Boots also feature the recco avalanche system to help assist in the location of avalanche victims in select boots in the line and the outlast technology which helps keep riders comfortable by absorbing body heat when too much is created. Vans also offers a range of outsoles, footbeds and liners for their boots. Vans offers a range of BOA technology from focus to double to single to coiler to boa power cuff. Unfortunately, not every Vans boot is featured here. This is just a sneak peak at Vans. Vans Cirro The undisputed best in class Boa Focus boot, the 2012 Cirro offers the ultimate in both custom fit options and tunable flex […]

Last summer I purchased a new pair of 08-09 Vans Veil to be my main snowboard boot this winter and they just recently surpassed the 100th day on snow which means they get 100 day perspective to see how well they’ve held up through countless days on snow riding. Most snowboard companies make products that last for the average rider…giving about 30-50 days on snow. [singlepic id=9337 w=400 h=267 float=] The Vans Veils (used to be Omni’s) have been my main snowboard boot since 02-03 and I’ve always gone back to them because I know the stiffer flex will last a whole season, the quality of Vans and BOA will work for the 100 day rider and the fit is exactly what I want in a snowboard boot. [singlepic id=9334 w=400 h=267 float=] The major wear damage to my Veils is on the left inner liner where the inside liner material rubs up against velcro and over 100 days has worn down the inner liner to basically nothing in that one spot. [singlepic id=9335 w=400 h=267 float=] The Vans Veils feature a dual BOA system which is what I prefer on the mountain, lower and upper BOA to keep it […]

Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself Tristan: I was born and raised in Tennessee. I grew up on a farm (in the boondocks) until 6th grade. Then I moved to Nashville, which is where I started skating. Skating changed my life. I stopped playing traditional sports and skated every day. Skating eventually brought me to snowboarding and the love of both of these sports (and boredom) brought me to California, which is where I reside now. I live in Venice beach and work at Vans making snowboard boots. I also started surfing when I moved to Venice. Shay: What is your job title? Tristan: Snowboard Boot Developer [singlepic id=6323 w=400 h=533 float=] Shay: Did your parents question your job choice? Tristan: Never. Shay: What was your first set up? Tristan: Supernatural 158 (Mervin) , Drake F50 Bindings and Northwave boots Shay: What is your current set up? Tristan: -Last season I rode a couple of different Arbor boards, with the Wasteland being one of my favorites. They are located near my home in Venice Beach, CA. So, I know a couple of the guys over there and we try to keep it friendly. -Burton P1 bindings. -Vans boots […]
