The 2nd item in my collection of gear that has hit 100 days is my Vans Omni Focus boots. I purchased the boots in the fall of 2006. Since then they’ve been my main snowboard boots. I was surprised that these boots lasted 2 seasons for me, easily going above and beyond the life. When I first got the boots, they were stiff and it took a good 6 days of riding before they were the perfect fit. Now after a lot of days on them, they have packed out and are a lot softer of a boot than when I first got them. The only thing I changed on the boots was the production insoles, I replaced those twice throughout the life with superfeet insoles.Just to be clear…I’m your average snowboarder, give or take. I’m not pro, I’m not a beginner…I’m right in the middle of those two extremes. I put my Vans Omni Focus to the test this year to see how they are after 100 days on snow. This is Shay’s 100 Day Perspective…and I plan to do this with more products that hit 100 days. Boa: The biggest concern from most people is the boa. I […]

So while riding at Copper on Sunday I had a boot malfunction with my Vans Omni Focus which I mentioned in my blog here but I kept riding after solving the issue with duct tape. Today I called up Boa Technologies since they are based here in Steamboat Springs, explained my issue to them and I was able to bring my boots to their office to get the boa knob fixed. So during my lunch break I got to visit the Boa Technology office, it took less than 5 minutes for them to help get my boa knob back on and tightened everything so my boots were good to go! I was stoked…and I got to take home a spare boa tool (which I needed since I can’t find my old one). The before shot: Poor knob! The after shot: Back to Awesome!

Back in 2002 I only shopped at Olympic Sports (RIP) mostly cause I had an instructor discount there and they had this amazing salesperson, Gorio who knew everything (he still knows everything but at Evo in Seattle). After trying on many different boots, I found that Vans specifically the Omni’s were the best fit for me. They had the boa system and Gorio sold me on them. Now 5 years later, the boa system is in most major boot companies and still holding strong. I haven’t changed my boots, I still wear vans omni boots…just newer models and I’ve now switched it up to the dual (focus) boa system with my snowboard boots. My original pair of 02-03 Vans Omni took a while to get used to. They were the stiffest boots I’d ever owned and it took some breaking in time to get used to them. Gorio had to do work on the punching out the toebox the first day just so my feet weren’t killing me. I kept those boots around for the next 3 seasons. In those 3 seasons, I spent over 300 days total in those boots. Far past the life expectancy of snowboard boots. Luckily […]
