100 days can seem like a lot or a little depending on how many days you ride each season. Over the past couple years, only a couple products have endured the 100 day mark. After 100 days they get the perspectives post to identify how they look after so many days, how durable they are and what the wear/tear looks like. It’s not so much a usual review but it is a judge of quality. I’ve been riding the Vans Veil’s (used to be Omni’s) model for almost ten seasons now. Since boots are such an important part of your snowboard gear, I have chosen to stay with the model that fits my feet to perfection and focus on other reviews (snowboards, bindings, softgoods) for those less tied to fit. Last year after writing the 100 day perspective, Vans added me to their wear test program. Basically I get to ride the next season’s boots, document the wear/tear after so many days and give them feedback. So for the 2010/11 season I was riding the 2011/12 Vans Veils in order to give feedback. This year the Vans Veils received over 100 days on snow and were ridden from December to […]

Last summer I purchased a new pair of 08-09 Vans Veil to be my main snowboard boot this winter and they just recently surpassed the 100th day on snow which means they get 100 day perspective to see how well they’ve held up through countless days on snow riding. Most snowboard companies make products that last for the average rider…giving about 30-50 days on snow. [singlepic id=9337 w=400 h=267 float=] The Vans Veils (used to be Omni’s) have been my main snowboard boot since 02-03 and I’ve always gone back to them because I know the stiffer flex will last a whole season, the quality of Vans and BOA will work for the 100 day rider and the fit is exactly what I want in a snowboard boot. [singlepic id=9334 w=400 h=267 float=] The major wear damage to my Veils is on the left inner liner where the inside liner material rubs up against velcro and over 100 days has worn down the inner liner to basically nothing in that one spot. [singlepic id=9335 w=400 h=267 float=] The Vans Veils feature a dual BOA system which is what I prefer on the mountain, lower and upper BOA to keep it […]

Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself Tristan: I was born and raised in Tennessee. I grew up on a farm (in the boondocks) until 6th grade. Then I moved to Nashville, which is where I started skating. Skating changed my life. I stopped playing traditional sports and skated every day. Skating eventually brought me to snowboarding and the love of both of these sports (and boredom) brought me to California, which is where I reside now. I live in Venice beach and work at Vans making snowboard boots. I also started surfing when I moved to Venice. Shay: What is your job title? Tristan: Snowboard Boot Developer [singlepic id=6323 w=400 h=533 float=] Shay: Did your parents question your job choice? Tristan: Never. Shay: What was your first set up? Tristan: Supernatural 158 (Mervin) , Drake F50 Bindings and Northwave boots Shay: What is your current set up? Tristan: -Last season I rode a couple of different Arbor boards, with the Wasteland being one of my favorites. They are located near my home in Venice Beach, CA.
Vans continues with their well established boot line from freestyle to freeride, multiple colors and multiple lacing systems in 2009-2010. A couple new additions to the line with the mens and womens aura boots and matlock. The aura boot gives a softer flexing boot with BOA Focus, something that I’ve seen more interest in. Jamie Lynn put his signature artwork on a Vans Boot in two artwork choices, the naked lady and eagle. In both men’s and women’s models there is a collaboration with POW (Protect our Winters) with the white/pow boot (also available in mens) with a percentage of proceeds going to help fund programs that work towards reversing the global warming crisis. For the women, the B4BC (Boarding for Breast Cancer) is the special edition black/B4BC Veil boot with a percentage of the proceeds going to raise awareness to the fight against breast cancer. Boobs are good, so supporting B4BC is good. Please take into consideration not all 2009-2010 Vans products are showcased. Men’s Boots Vans Wiig Boot Color: White/Blue/Plaid [singlepic id=4692 w=266 h=400 float=] Vans Wiig Boot Color: Black/Black [singlepic id=4694 w=266 h=400 float=] Vans Wiig Boot Color: Red/Black [singlepic id=4695 w=266 h=400 float=] Vans […]

The 2nd item in my collection of gear that has hit 100 days is my Vans Omni Focus boots. I purchased the boots in the fall of 2006. Since then they’ve been my main snowboard boots. I was surprised that these boots lasted 2 seasons for me, easily going above and beyond the life. When I first got the boots, they were stiff and it took a good 6 days of riding before they were the perfect fit. Now after a lot of days on them, they have packed out and are a lot softer of a boot than when I first got them. The only thing I changed on the boots was the production insoles, I replaced those twice throughout the life with superfeet insoles.Just to be clear…I’m your average snowboarder, give or take. I’m not pro, I’m not a beginner…I’m right in the middle of those two extremes. I put my Vans Omni Focus to the test this year to see how they are after 100 days on snow. This is Shay’s 100 Day Perspective…and I plan to do this with more products that hit 100 days. Boa: The biggest concern from most people is the boa. I […]
