I love watching these VBS.TV Powder & Rail clips…if you want to get a glimpse into some amazing riders who really set the example for snowboarding and pioneered the way…watch these especially Jeff Brushie episodes. Producer Trevar Cushing on the Jeff Brushie episodes: At the time Brushie came onto the scene, snowboarding on the East Coast was very race-competition orientated and way behind the guys in the West in terms of freestyle. He’s the one who finally brought the much-needed skate influence to the East Coast scene. Actually a lot of people I interviewed didn’t even realize that Brushie was from Vermont, because no one associated the East Coast with any measure of style. Thank God for creating Jeff Brushie, or at least I guess thank his parents. Part IPart II

Here’s episode 5 from VBS.TV Powder and Rails. Here is what Trevar, the producer, had to say about interviewing Damien: Whenever I interview someone for the show they always ask me who I’ve already talked to. Without fail, as soon as I get to Damian they all stop me and start in with a million questions like, “How’s he doing? What’s he up to? What’s he look like now? Did he get fat?” It’s been 15 years since his snowboarding career ended and everyone is still obsessed with him. Damian has probably lived one of the coolest lives ever. In between repeated mentions of what a nice and genuine person he is, his old friends and colleagues told me some of the most depraved stories I have ever heard in my life. Really out there shit–you’ll see when we get there. These episodes represent just a small fraction of the man’s awesomeness. Tweak it like Damian!

Brad Kremer from Mack Dawg really says it best when he talks about how it was just following these friends as they snowboard, not about tricks or each riders part but showing them in real life. Definitely check out the video, only about 5 minutes of your life but worth it.

Here is episode 2 of Powder and Rails…if you have ever wondered about the beginning of snowboarding with some amazing footage and interviews about the classic The Western Front, check out this show. From the producers: Watching FLF’s “Western Front” nowadays, you may think this is some fruity shit. But if you’ve ever seen any other snowboarding videos from around the same time you understand that “Western Front” is the coolest thing going. It’s the first snowboarding video ever made that wasn’t like a promo or a team video. Freestyle riding was the main focus and it was more about doing tricks rather than winning races or trying to replicate the stuff that skiers did. Snowboarding was really small then and not many people even got to see the video, but it set the stage for what snowboarding was going to turn into.

So I just had this come across my laptop and checked out the trailer for the upcoming show…looks very old school friendly which shows some really sweet footage from the early days of riding. The series will delve through the storied history of the sport with an emphasis on how it transformed from a novelty for yuppie two-plankers to something bored skateboarders did in the winter to one of the most anticipated events in the Olympic Games. This VBS series begins with the legendary Fall Line Films releases in the late ’80s, particularly The Western Front. The videos shifted the focus of snowboarding, inspiring a whole generation to forget about contests and focus more on tricks and mountain exploration. They also helped, plant the seeds for the proliferation of professional snowboarders over the next two decades. “Powder and Rails” will kick off its first season with 10 weekly episodes, which will air ever every Monday. The show will feature some of snowboarding’s most noteworthy personalities, including: Damian Sanders, Jeff Brushie, Tom Burt, Trevor Graves, Steve Graham, Todd Richards, Mack Dawg, Jeremy Jones (jib), Dave Seoane, Pat Bridges, Mike Hatchett, and tons more. Moving forward, the show will explore the […]
