Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Venture Helix with Salomon Absolute bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 158 cm First Impression: Don’t let the pretty snowflakes distract you, the Helix definitely rides tough and charges the mountain. Weight: Average. Flex: The Helix had a stiffer more aggressive overall flex to the board despite being a true twin all-mountain freestyle deck. Stiffer flex torsionally between the bindings that helped give it good stability on the ride down but also meant more effort to engage the board on edge. Tad softer nose in case there was a powder moment. The Helix has rocker technology which is flat between the bindings with a mellow uplift on the tip and tail. Turning: I noticed right away that getting on edge took more effort with the stiffer, aggressive flex. Overall the shorter quicker radius turns felt the best but required more quickness on the riders part. Everytime I got into a longer drawn out turn, the board felt ready to get out of it. It could have been something with detuning or just the conditions but I kept the board to the shorter turns to […]

Deep in the rugged Rocky Mountains near a little town called Silverton, Venture builds and designs snowboards for the mountains that surround them. Their operations use 100% windpower and take pride in the fact that they are built in the US and use Forest Stewardship Council certified hardwoods to make their cores. They build boards meant for mountain performance. For 2013, Venture continues with their rocker technology, flat between the bindings with a mellow uplift on the tip and tail. Their rockered shapes offer increased maneuverability and floatation without sacrificing stability or edge hold. They offer multiple widths because one size doesn’t fit all and with four waist widths everyone has something that works for them. Returning for 2013 is the Euphoria powder surfer snowboard. Venture Euphoria After a two year hiatus, the Euphoria makes its triumphant return for 2012/2013. With the help of pow surfing pioneer Johan Olofsson, this board has undergone a complete overhaul and is the ideal choice for the deepest of days. In its latest incarnation, the Euphoria boasts rocker, reverse sidecut and a swallowtail. A full insert pack allows it to be ridden with traditional bindings, through it is designed to excel when surfed bindingless. […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Mixture of slushy snow to leftover soft snow to hardpacked conditions. Setup: I rode the Venture Storm splitboard with Spark R&D Blaze bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 156cm. First Impression: A good trek on the way up, even better on the way down the mountain. Weight: Average Ease of Use: Setting up the splitboard was pretty easy with the Voile mounting system and Spark R&D Blaze bindings. I took everything out, made sure my stance and angles were appropriate, then got everything dialed on the splitboard. To prepare for skinning first, I set up the board as skis, put on the skins (hardest part is peeling them apart) and prepared to ascend the mountain. When I reached the spot I wanted to ride down, I removed the bindings from the skis by removing the slider pins, put the skis on the ground to make the board, connected it and interlocked the board together, then slid the bindings back on and put the pins in. Also removed the skins from the base since you don’t want those on the ride down. Flex: The Storm splitboard is meant to be on the stiffer end […]
