It’s April which means it’s time to head back to Washington & Whistler! I try to hit up Whistler at least once every year for my favorite time of year, the Telus Festival when snowboarding meets music meets canadian beer. This year the Grenade Games are doing their 6th year and 2nd year in Whistler which means quite the possibilities for trouble in the mountains. I’m flying back home to Seattle to take in a couple days with family & friends before I head up to Whistler to end the remainder of my trip snowboarding and enjoying all the events going on in Whistler next week for Telus Festival. This trip gives me a couple new blog opportunities that I have in the works, I’ll be making stops and high 5’ing along the drive to Whistler. The best part is I’ll be able to demo a brand of snowboard that everyone wants to know about plus do more on-snow demos on the demo day that goes on. For the most part, I’ll be enjoying it all and stoked to come back this year. Washington Most of my Seattle time will be visiting family & friends but it’ll also be a […]

I’ve made the trek to Whistler for the past 10 years and it is always an adventure, this year I remained in Whistler for 7 days which I wish lasted longer. I have plenty of Whistler stories but they all stay in Whistler, thank goodness for that! Each year I find myself less enjoying the nightlife and enjoying more of the on-snow events and time I spend with friends. This year was no exception and I found myself in the happiest place on earth for me…Whistler, BC for a whole week with a bed, friends and a snowboard. [singlepic id=5297 w=400 h=300 float=] Photo: Kendra Tombu So this post is highlights from the trip and really an overview of a week in Whistler. The Best Moment I was standing in the customs line at the Vancouver Airport surrounded by pro snowboarders, in fact snowboarders in general stand out from the crowd. I’ve met MFM a couple times, always a nice guy and a pleasure to talk with, he was two people behind me in line. The woman behind me was asking him questions about snowboarding and what he did and how her son or grandson wanted to get into snowboarding. […]

After riding for the day, we pre-gamed it up at the GLC which was right next to the Big Air Competition.
On Tuesday, the Grenade Games 5 started in Whister, BC with a variety of competitions and activities planned. Wednesday’s contest was the Dual Slalom Moguls on top of Blackcomb Mountain. To make things more difficult for the athletes, even by the 11am start time the mountain had icy conditions. Here’s my mini video of a couple of the runs that pros did. Notice the wipeouts…quite funny! Grenade Games 5: Dual Slalom Moguls from Shayboarder on Vimeo.
I was up at 4:30am, at the Denver airport by 5:30am to catch my 7am flight. I packed everything into my snowboard bag and found the happiest flight attendant to walk up to and when she weighed it, it was between 50lbs and 50.5lbs. She let me go and I thanked her kindly. The world through my eyes that early is blurry [singlepic id=5541 w=400 h=300 float=] Bright and early [singlepic id=5542 w=400 h=300 float=] Sunrise in Denver airport [singlepic id=5543 w=400 h=300 float=] The first flight was to Seattle and I got the good view of Mt. Rainer on the way in. As I was waiting to board the flight, Louie Vito strolled up to catch the same flight. Ended up hanging out in Seattle waiting for the next flight with Louie Vito, he found smoothies and I found starbucks…we were set for waiting it out. I met Louie at SIA when I did the video with him on his O-matic board for 09-10. Then I got to see him at Copper on Saturday and talk with him about Whistler, so today was no surprise to see him again. [singlepic id=5544 w=400 h=300 float=] After Seattle, flew to […]

It’s about to be traveling time for Shayboarder.com. I’ll be traveling around Colorado for the next four days between Steamboat, Denver and Summit County to get some riding time in and participate in fun stories for the blog. Then on Monday I’ll be flying out to Vancouver, BC to head up to Whistler for a week to enjoy the Telus Festival/Grenade Games. Keep updated on the shayboarder twitter! [singlepic id=5644 w=346 h=231 float=] This truly is my favorite time of year, my town Steamboat is quiet right now since we’re in mud season where everyone travels to exotic locations but I continue to shred it up and head to Whistler. Last year when I left Whistler I didn’t feel like I had enough time and this year with the Grenade Games going on, it was the perfect year to take a long week and really enjoy it. Whistler Telus Festival/Grenade Games So I’ll be in Canada from April 20th to 27th snowboarding Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, checking out the Grenade Games and posting up event photos/reports and having an amazing time at Telus Festival with the live music and activities going on. You can read my daily updates on […]
