Times are rough in the snowboard industry where each day we hear of companies cutting employees, pro riders getting dropped and shops going under but what about companies working hard to survive and still giving the fans an opportunity to love a product? Owner of Bluebird Wax, Willie McMillon is trying to stay afloat during these times, offering up rad giveaways that even poor people can afford and with many changes in store, there’s a lot to be discussed on the state of the industry with Willie McMillon. [singlepic id=4459 w=320 h=240 float=center] Photo: Stephanie Peterka Shay: Recently Bluebird became free of investors, why the change and how do you feel about it? Willie: We spent 8 years with them. They provided money, knowledge, resources and a warehouse. Ray taught me everything I know about business. He also taught me how to gamble. He got me into blackjack at our first trade show together. You have to be a good gambler to be a good business man. A responsible, profitable gamblin’ man. Anyway, the past 8 years were preparation for what I’m doing today. We had limitations working with them, and we have limitations doing this shit out of […]

The show will be coming out in January and looking forward to what the Bluebird guys come up with.
I enjoy stumbling across new blogs, checking out what various snowboarders around the world have to say. Today I stumbled across Willie McMillion who updated his facebook status with a link to a Bluebird Blog. I was really expecting Willie to make a blog about poop and dickholes, Peter Line has the colon blog, Willie can have dickholes. To my amazement, it was not. I look forward to seeing what comes out of Willie’s mouth, or if he has some secret intern that does it for him…either way, check it out!

My first encounter with Willie McMillion was on the drive up to Jackson Hole where I overheard a conversation of him talking to Drago about “dick holes.” I made it to Jackson prepared for every possible thing he could say and found out more than “dick holes” about Willie. If you don’t know Willie, he’s that guy who created good wax, speaks the truth (whether cussing or not) and got fired for his commentating at Quiksilver’s Natural Selection. So needless to say…I wanted to do a interview with him to catch up on what he’s up to. Here’s a glimpse into the un-edited, upfront world of Willie. STEPHANIE PETERKA PHOTO Shay: Who is Willie McMillion? Willie: hold on, let me take some acid, i’ll get right back to that. Shay: Is it hard to work and play in Jackson, Wyoming? Willie: no, i got this shit dialed. Shay: How did you get your start in the snowboard industry? Willie: i grew up poor and hand to fend for myself. so i rubbed two pennies together and made a dime. Shay: What are some changes you would like to see with the snowboard industry? Willie: i would like to see kids […]

Over the weekend I headed up to Jackson Hole on an impromptu trip to the Bluebird Movie Premiere. It was 24 hours in Jackson Hole and 8 hours of driving to get there…but totally worth it. So the trip started because Willie McMillion started a post on Snowboard Mag about Nic Drago needed a ride or way to get to the bluebird premiere. I had considered going to the premiere so it wasn’t a hard choice to throw out the “lets carpool up from Breck” option. My only concern was a place to stay in Jackson, but Nic Drago said there was room so it was good to go. We left Breck early Saturday morning for the long 8 hour drive through Colorado and Wyoming up to Jackson Hole. This trip for me was about putting faces to names. It was cool because everyone I’ve met I had heard of them or read about them in magazines but never have met them. So just the opportunity of meeting them was great. Also it’s supporting a company that I use, I’ve used bluebird wax and especially the soy wax for the last couple years on my boards. We made it to […]
