There’s only a couple days left of Windells Camp, a couple more chairlift rides, a couple more PB&J sandwiches and a couple more times to try tricks in the Windells Park. After camp I should be able to stick around in Oregon to get in some more shred time on the mountain so I’m looking forward to not leaving right when camp is done. Conditions for session 7 have held up, snow’s melted so fast since June when I was here and chairlift rides were below snowpiles. Now it’s above the rocks but the spots to snowboard still have good coverage. Weather this session has been windy but usually sunny, clouds are definitely starting to roll in more often. [singlepic id=9851 w=600 h=338 float=] Josh from kitchen crew [singlepic id=9848 w=600 h=338 float=] Another familiar face this summer has been Nate from Stevens Pass here all summer and now at Windells for the last session. [singlepic id=9849 w=600 h=338 float=] Becky getting her ski time in! [singlepic id=9850 w=600 h=338 float=] I ended up with a Camper of the Day from skier Josh Bishop’s group and tagged along to get some shots. Unfortunately Max the camper broke his wrist later […]

Above the clouds is my favorite time to be at Timberline, the moment you get above you feel on top of the world. It can be cloudy overcast below the clouds and above the clouds it’ll be bluebird and beautiful. Windells has the demo shack at camp with all of next year’s gear available at your disposal. I’ve been slacking on taking out more gear since I’ve been enjoying having some time off to ride the same board and work on my riding versus changing things up. However I finally felt motivated and took out the 10-11 Capita horrorscope to get in some park riding on it. [singlepic id=9842 w=300 h=533 float=] Despite having a late start to today I felt like I accomplished more with my riding, tried a couple new features and felt good all day long! I love those days…plus I also did my work of getting Camper of the Day with Jon, a return camper who I met last summer at session 7. He got injured but he came back since Windells makes his summer. [singlepic id=9846 w=600 h=338 float=] Today a lot of the staff switched it up on the mountain so a good amount […]

Today was the first day of on-snow for session 7 and definitely time to throw down the tricks before summer ends! Timberline is still in great condition, Palmer chairlift is covered with good amount of snow still and the snow where the parks are at is still holding up. [singlepic id=9835 w=600 h=338 float=] I have a rad schedule that I stick to now, cruise in the morning and take laps for myself then get the Camper of the Day for the afternoon. It works out pretty good and gives me “my” time to enjoy some shred practice. Today I worked on ollie’ing onto two new rails in the park. I eventually ate it a lot…some good wipeouts today.
Summer flies by when you are having fun and with session 7 already here, it brings the last snowboard session of the summer for Windells Camp. I didn’t know what I was getting into when I came out here but sometimes the unknown and unexpected ends up being a great surprise of new experiences and people. It was the last morning meeting and arrival day at Windells Camp, the morning consisted of a meeting with the staff to get things dialed for this session. [singlepic id=9832 w=600 h=338 float=] I headed into Portland to do an airport drop but when I arrived back at camp it was going off with campers who were enjoying all the on-campus activities. [singlepic id=9830 w=600 h=338 float=] Dryslope was busy with skiers and snowboarders trying it out [singlepic id=9833 w=600 h=338 float=] The TREW guys are in town and at Windells Camp [singlepic id=9834 w=600 h=338 float=] The last orientation of the summer [singlepic id=9831 w=600 h=338 float=] Crazy how fast it’s all gone by but definitely going to enjoy the last couple days on snow and enjoy Mt Hood longer after camp ends. Stoked for what this summer has been at Windells Camp […]

You know it’s a great day when you start and end your day with songs from the Robotfood movies…they just do a great job of pumping you up for a day of shred and stoking you out on the end of a great day. It’s day 140 of the 09-10 season for me, hard to believe this is the longest I’ve ever ridden and everyday still is great! It was a late start to the day but a great day with the girls. Skate coach Lisa who I’ve hung out a lot with this summer was able to get up to the mountain and ride today! [singlepic id=9793 w=400 h=637 float=] Mountain conditions were perfect, barely any lines after 10:30am and the Windells park was even less busy than usual. I guess a lot of kids were tired this session and called it a day earlier than usual.
There are definitely some days that don’t feel as progressive as others and my mind is not in the right place…today was one of those days. I really wasn’t feeling the mountain but made it up to get in some turns, try something new and hope for the best. I still have no complaints though but more just needing to step up my riding cause I feel in a rut right now. It’s definitely late summer when you don’t strap in to get on the magic mile chairlift [singlepic id=9786 w=600 h=338 float=] As soon as I arrived in the park, Mackenzie was like watch this and totally rode off the pipe over the staircase set. It was impressive and caught it on camera. Mackenzie won the Pipe to Pipe a couple weeks back. [singlepic id=9787 w=600 h=338 float=] The Never Summer crew was back on the slopes hitting all the features for the day. Here’s Ryan Cruze on the dream feature which is a rhythm section you can get some fun air off of.
Most of this summer has been early morning breakfast and then heading straight to the mountain for a full day of shredding but then there are days like today where after breakfast at camp, you fall back to sleep for a couple hours before heading to the mountain. It definitely helps make the day better with extra much needed sleep and skipping the busy lift line time on the slopes. The girls at Windells have been amazing this summer, there are so many rad skier, skate and snowboarder girls here and hanging out with them has made my summer. Today I rode up with Izzy and Dania for some girl shred time before we split up on the mountain. [singlepic id=9780 w=600 h=338 float=] For warm up in the morning, Izzy and I lapped through the Windells park and did Palmer chairlift laps so she could hit the top jump with the pole. Here’s her 180 midway off the jump.
July is coming to an end but even still every day on the slopes is another day of snowboarding at Timberline and having fun at Windells Camp. The snow is melting faster on the slopes which means you hike to the parking lot at the end of the day or at the end of each run on the lower chairlift so most of the days are spent on Palmer Chairlift getting the laps in.
What a great day on snow! Session 6 arrived to Windells Camp with campers finally hitting the snow today. It’s definitely feeling like summer is coming to an end and time to make sure I get tricks I wanted from this summer. Yesterday Never Summer arrived in town with their riders Nick De Cicco, Cooper Hoffmeister, Ryan Cruze and Chris Lynch. They’ll be filming this week in camp so stoked to have them here all week. [singlepic id=9758 w=600 h=338 float=] The first couple laps I took with Never Summer which was perfect for warming up the day and watching the boys ride again. Nick De Cicco is back from knee surgery so he was stoked to be on snow again. [singlepic id=9759 w=600 h=338 float=] I was stoked for today’s riding because I hit 3 new features and fell a lot. I finally hit the corrugated tube and a couple stall features like the barrier and triangle box. Each session we have new features and here’s the newest one. First jump in the park line with a pole jib out of it, unknown skier hitting it.
