Now, I wish I knew what model the snowboard was. After college, I moved to Vermont and was a snowboard coach for the Mount Mansfield Snowboard Club at Stowe/pizza delivery driver/other odd jobs that had nothing to do with my college degree.
There’s a list in my head of things I want to do when it comes to snowboarding. It’s not really a bucket list but more a list that every snowboarder dreams of. One of the items was to do a summer at Mt Hood and I can finally cross it off the list. There was a chance that this summer might not have happened, I interviewed at two rad companies right before Mt Hood and I made the decision that I would stick to my commitment of riding this summer. Looking back on the summer, I have no regrets and I walked away with friendships, fun and my longest season of snowboarding ever. I arrived at Mt Hood in late May which meant seeing the full summer snow conditions at Timberline each day. In early June, Timberline was covered with tons of snow. It was like winter at any other mountain and it meant that this summer would be great for snow conditions through September. In mid-June we received a powder day and it was the first time riding powder in the summer months (so worth it!). Eventually as the summer wore on, the snow melted into the familiar areas […]

There’s only a couple days left of Windells Camp, a couple more chairlift rides, a couple more PB&J sandwiches and a couple more times to try tricks in the Windells Park. After camp I should be able to stick around in Oregon to get in some more shred time on the mountain so I’m looking forward to not leaving right when camp is done. Conditions for session 7 have held up, snow’s melted so fast since June when I was here and chairlift rides were below snowpiles. Now it’s above the rocks but the spots to snowboard still have good coverage. Weather this session has been windy but usually sunny, clouds are definitely starting to roll in more often. [singlepic id=9851 w=600 h=338 float=] Josh from kitchen crew [singlepic id=9848 w=600 h=338 float=] Another familiar face this summer has been Nate from Stevens Pass here all summer and now at Windells for the last session.
Above the clouds is my favorite time to be at Timberline, the moment you get above you feel on top of the world. It can be cloudy overcast below the clouds and above the clouds it’ll be bluebird and beautiful. Windells has the demo shack at camp with all of next year’s gear available at your disposal. I’ve been slacking on taking out more gear since I’ve been enjoying having some time off to ride the same board and work on my riding versus changing things up. However I finally felt motivated and took out the 10-11 Capita horrorscope to get in some park riding on it. [singlepic id=9842 w=300 h=533 float=] Despite having a late start to today I felt like I accomplished more with my riding, tried a couple new features and felt good all day long! I love those days…plus I also did my work of getting Camper of the Day with Jon, a return camper who I met last summer at session 7. He got injured but he came back since Windells makes his summer. [singlepic id=9846 w=600 h=338 float=] Today a lot of the staff switched it up on the mountain so a good amount […]

Summer flies by when you are having fun and with session 7 already here, it brings the last snowboard session of the summer for Windells Camp. I didn’t know what I was getting into when I came out here but sometimes the unknown and unexpected ends up being a great surprise of new experiences and people. It was the last morning meeting and arrival day at Windells Camp, the morning consisted of a meeting with the staff to get things dialed for this session. [singlepic id=9832 w=600 h=338 float=] I headed into Portland to do an airport drop but when I arrived back at camp it was going off with campers who were enjoying all the on-campus activities.
