Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Jones Carbon Flagship with Union Charger bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 161 cm First Impression: Wow, the carbon combination definitely makes for a lightning fast, aggressive board for charging riders. Weight: Lighter than average. Flex: The Carbon Flagship is on the stiffer end, it’s designed for aggressive freeriding. I haven’t ridden the normal Flagship to compare it yet. There is a good amount of torsional flex between the bindings for quick edge response. The nose felt a bit softer than the tail but overall both were on the stiffer side for mountain handling. The Carbon Flagship features a directional rocker. There is more rocker on the nose side of the board, camber underfoot and subtle rocker towards the tail of the board. The Carbon Flagship also features a blunt nose. Turning: Insanely quick edge to edge…that’s what I wrote down in my notes for the Carbon Flagship. It’s light, quick and as soon as you initiate a turn, you are riding that turn. It’s not meant for the faint-hearted, this board will keep you on your toes (or heels). Once engaged into a […]

Hard to believe it’s that time of year but things are about to get crazy in Colorado! For the next 10 days I’ll be on the road, in the tradeshow for four days, on the snow demos for two days and finally relaxing towards the end of the trip. I’ll be attending the SIA Tradeshow as media for Shayboarder.com. Over the next couple days you’ll see a lot of 2013 gear, twitter updates (@Shayboarder), instagram photos (Shayboarder), Facebook Updates (/Shayboarder) and a whole lotta fun in the process. After the tradeshow, I’ll immediately head into the mountains for the on-snow portion at Winter Park then on a mini vacation roadtrip. After I get back in Washington, I’ll start the constant updates from SIA with product information and 2012 reviews. Here’s what is coming up for the next 10 days! SIA Tradeshow in Denver Watch out Denver, the snowboard and ski industry is coming to Colorado! The SIA Tradeshow is an industry event where the next year’s gear is released. A ton of ski and snowboard companies will be displaying their 2013 gear for industry buyers and media this week. It all kicks off on Thursday and ends Sunday. Plus each […]

I actually was awake and left Steamboat before the sun rose to arrive in Winter Park at 8am for an early start to the day. My friend, Tom was competing in the Freeskiing Open at Winter Park today so I went along for support and took my good camera to take some photos of the competition. On the way to the competition we hit up the medium park and superpipe. The sun was shining but the temperature wasn’t too hot. The snow did soften up as the day went on. Dark Territory competion time I made laps with Tom as he went through the slopestyle course. The course for the contest was 4 jumps and a mixture of rails. Today was the pre-qualifiers for tomorrow’s final contest.I made laps throughout the day and as the time came for Tom to lap through, I found a spot to sit on the side of the run and took photos. Good thing my canon camera lens has good zoom on it. Me chilling on the slope Skiers waiting to drop in to the first rail and then the jump line My favorite photo from the batch was this unknown skier pulling a backflip […]
