Snowflakes have fallen, resorts have opened and all the 2012/2013 gear will be hitting the slopes soon! Each year I get the opportunity to ride and review gear before they hit the shops. Eventually this list will be expanded but here’s the collection of bindings I was able to try out so far! So far I’ve ridden 14 bindings, 8 men’s and 6 women’s models. Each review is judged by the same standard and for the majority of reviews I used my own boots. If you have a specific binding you would like to be reviewed please request it in the comment section. About me as a snowboarder: I’m coming up on my 19th season snowboarding. I am majority freerider (I ride trees, powder, steeps, groomers, natural terrain) and I ride halfpipe. I’m progressing my park experience with boxes/rails. I am 5’6″ and typically ride a 156cm for my all mountain board, my powder board is a 161cm and my park board is a 151cm. I am a regular rider with a 22 inch width, +15, -15 stance angles. I wear size 8 womens snowboard boots and feel comfortable riding both men’s and women’s bindings. My opinion is only my […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Salomon Absolute Premium bindings on the YES Greats/Venture Helix with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Pretty normal time to set up the bindings. Fit: I tried the Salomon Absolute Premium bindings in the medium size which were suitable to my size 8 boots. Good comfortable fit on the width and baseplate to my boots. First Impression: Responsive, comfortable and a toe strap I finally like. Appearance: They only come in White for the Absolute Premium bindings but I like the design since it’s a mix of white and purple with a subtle mint coloring in spots. I definitely like the look of the binding and the color choices bring out the flawless design. Comfort: Good comfort on the Absolute Premium bindings. The ankle strap is padded and molds very well to the boot without causing any pressure points. The toe strap didn’t have any problems and the padding in the baseplate helped absorb any rough bumpy terrain while riding. Functionality: The Salomon Absolute Premium bindings offer up a high end responsive binding for women. The baseplate is a transfer […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Flux GM30 Bindings on the Endeavor Diamond with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Pretty normal time to set up the bindings. Fit: I tried the Flux GM30 bindings in the small size which fit my size 8 boots just fine. The straps were able to be adjusted properly and I didn’t have any slippage problems while riding. First Impression: Definitely a more suitable all-mountain binding from Flux for the female rider. Appearance: I rode the GM30 bindings in Metallic Black. Designed with flux bindings written all over, a little bit of bling on the straps and a basic black design that’s rocked out. Pretty snazzy bindings for the mountain. Comfort: Flux has always been a very comfortable binding choice and the GM30’s continued with the trend. Super padded straps, good padding on the footbed and ultra comfort for the ride down the mountain. Functionality: Built for all mountain riding, the Flux GM30 binding offers a vogue base with performance blend 30 and a new footbed. The highback is the chair highback with super tough nylon. The straps are F-tech […]

Location: Mammoth Mountain, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Stilettos on the Burton Lipstick with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: This was an easy set up for my boots. Probably one of the easier bindings to get going and didn’t require much adjustment. Fit: I tried the Stiletto bindings in the larges which were a good fit for my boots. The straps are super padded and look big on my boots but offer a good amount of support. First Impression: The Stilettos are a really easy going binding, definitely a great progressive choice for women. Appearance: The Stilettos I tried were the Lime Drop colorchoice. They are really fun, bright and youthful looking with flowers and the mix of lime/yellow in the binding. Comfort: The Stilettos take on the comfort of the higher end Burton bindings to the max level. They are super comfortable, padded to the extreme and make you feel like you are attached to pillows. Functionality: The Burton Stilettos come with the 3D curved Lushstrap for the ankle strap and Prima Capstrap for the toe strap. Both offer up good padding, EVA with the […]

Location: Mammoth Mountain, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Escapades on the Burton Fortress with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: This setup took the longest time because of the demo guy not knowing how to properly. Halfway through I noticed the bindings were set up on the board for a goofy rider (I’m regular) so I let him know but he didn’t change it, instead saying it would be fine if I rode the board that way. I let him finish, then walked over to the tool bench and changed out the bindings to be properly on the board as a regular rider. It took way more time because he wouldn’t change his work and fix it, rather than make sure a board went out right. Fit: I received the Escapades in the size large which fit really good with my boots, good room for adjustments and very comfortable. First Impression: The Escapades are always a favorite, consistently comfortable and responsive. Appearance: The Escapades I tried out were the reflex version with the Circus Party colorway. It’s a really fun perky design and mix of colors. I really […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Flow Prima bindings on the Flow Drifter with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: One of the big components with Flow bindings and rear entry is making sure they are adjusted properly to your boot so you can get in quick and get out quicker. It took a tad longer to adjust than other bindings but well worth the wait. Fit: The Flow Prima’s I rode were on the large size for my boot but still fit comfortably. It was only noticeable on the baseplate where I had a bit wider room than I need for my boots and more toe ramp but I didn’t feel it impact the ride. First Impression: A responsive women’s binding with easy quick access and comfortable padding Appearance: Flow combines the colors purple, blue, black and white in a hypnotic design on the prima for 2012. The overlook look is mixed up color checkerboxes to solids. I wasn’t in love with the appearance of the bindings but the performance for me won me over more than the looks. Comfort: Very comfortable all around […]

Location: Winter Park, Colorado Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain, flat-light riding conditions. Setup: I rode the K2 Auto Agogo on the K2 Fastplant with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: The K2 auto bindings definitely need to be adjusted to your boot so it takes a bit longer to set up. I had the front adjusted perfectly but had to get the back foot adjusted better after a run. Fit: The agogo’s fit my boots snug, the new toe strap definitely fit my vans boots better than previous years and I prefer to rock them cap strap so they fit very good with my vans once adjusted. No problems with the highback to my boot and barely any space between the width of the binding…some but nothing that would move around. First Impression: These are gonna be my bindings next season….exactly what I want in a binding and looking good for 10-11. Appearance: Finally the auto agogo’s are my style, the cougar has left the building and the fun young shred chick has entered. They are black or aqua for 10-11 and those aqua agogo’s just melted my heart when […]

Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Overcast with hardpacked groomers to a mixture of conditions. Setup: I rode the Ride Bandita Contrabands with the Ride Crush and my Rome Vamp size 8 boots. Time to set up the binding: The contrabands are one of those bindings you need to adjust properly to your boot…if you don’t, it’ll be a sucky ride. Luckily for me, we adjusted them to my boot so it wasn’t sucky. Fit: My Rome vamps looked funny in them, they fit cause I didn’t move around but I see spaces where I’m not used to seeing them and that could be me not knowing the binding as well and what’s normal or just how it works. It seemed a bit wider than I needed for my boots, I bet I could have been a better fit in the smaller size. First Impression: I was really happy that Ride finally gave us women a contraband binding and bummed that it took a year. First impression is it’s weird in a good way and I kept thinking I have camel toe on my foot. Appearance: Polka Dots meets stripe infusion in black/white.
