Welcome to the world of Roxy, where women rip and design the boards that other women ride. It’s a new generation of riders, designers and a factory known as Mervin Manufacturing that builds them. Roxy caught me by surprise a couple years ago when I first stepped on a Roxy board and since then, every board I’ve ridden is a breath of fresh air for female snowboarders. For 10-11 the women get C2 technology in big ways, three models receive reverse camber for a mixture of riding styles from freeriding to park, aggressive to playful. Those models are the eminence, envi and ollie pop. BTX continues on with the Ally and something new in store the silhouette B, Sugar B and Inspire B all feature Banana (without the traction) meant to make learning easier for beginner to intermediate riders linking turns at slower speeds with catch-free riding. Roxy Eminence C2 BTX and Envi C2 BTX [singlepic id=8118 w=600 h=900 float=] Roxy Eminence C2 BTX (Torah Bright) Features: New C2 BTX and core! True twin, aggressive freestyle, new columbian gold core, bio plastic beans topsheet, sintered 9900 base, Flex = 5. Sizes: 143, 146, 149, 152, 155 [singlepic id=8119 w=600 h=900 […]

2008-2009 Burton Feelgood ES Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Bluebird with hardpacked groomers to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Feelgood ES with Burton Escapades EST and my Vans Omni Focus size 8. First Impression: Why is the biggest size 155cm? A 157cm would have been sweet.Size: 155cmWeight: lighter than average Flex: It’s a stiffer flex for a women’s board but it’s meant to be that more freeride charging board versus the take it easy progressive feelgood. Longitudinally and torsional has decent stiffness to it, more so longitudinally. Turning: The plus was the lightness, easy to manuever from edge to edge and you could hold an edge and power through turns. It was fun just carving down the groomers, at slow or high speeds. The stiffer flex lets it hold an edge and not come out of turns easy keeping them stable but slower. You could spend all day laying out S carves on the Feelgood ES. Stable: The Feelgood ES had no problems with being unstable, on the groomers it could charge regular or switch riding. Even in the icy spots, it held an edge and you didn’t have to worry about washing out in icy turns. Pop: […]

2008-2009 Rome Vinyl Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Snowing with hard groomed groomers, some icy spots. Setup: I rode the Rome Vinyl with Rome Madison’s Bindings and my Vans Omni Focus boots. First Impression: I wish I learned on this board, easy mellow ride to progress with. Size: 152cm Weight: light Flex: It wasn’t a noodle, but definitely torsionally softer to make the turning easier for women. Overall it was a good medium flex for women, not a noodle but not stiff. It didn’t require a lot of extra effort to manipulate and initiate it into turns. When I did ride over some icy spots, it gripped and held an edge without washing out. Turning: It was really easy to initiate turns but also forgiving, so if you were taking your time to turn the board it wasn’t going to push you past your limits. It is light and flexible making it a good ride for women. I was just riding groomers with the vinyl and really small amounts of dust on crust which it was handling the adjusting terrain fine, holding an edge through the bumps. Stable: Definitely for the mellow rider, when I took it up to […]
