Location: Keystone, CO Snow Conditions: Softpacked corduroy to hard packed night riding. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Pandora with Burton Escapade bindings and Ride Cadence Focus boots. Size: 149 First Impression: The Pandora carries on the freestyle flare of the evo but built for women. Weight: Average. Flex: The Pandora is on the softer side but it’s a park board meant to be more playful. The softer flex is between the bindings with a torsional softness to it. It makes it really quick response torsionally. Then underfoot there is a stiffer flex to help with freeriding moments and landings. The Pandora features RC Technology which is a mix of rocker and camber, rocker between the feet and camber just outside both of the bindings. Turning: The Pandora is a really quick snappy board on edge. I even took a picture of my carves on corduroy to show just how responsive the board can be with shorter turns. The longer radius turns weren’t as stable but I also take into account the smaller size board. Stable: The softer freestyle flex of the Pandora holds up for riding the mountain but it’s not as stable as the Infinity or Lotus. It […]

Location: Whistler, BC Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Endeavor Boyfriend with Union Atlas Team bindings and Flow Luxe Coiler boots size 8. Size: 151cm First Impression: Moving from camber to multi camber is a welcome addition to the Boyfriend. Weight: Lighter than average. Flex: The Boyfriend has a similar flex to last year, the same longitudinal stiffer flex that gives more stability. The softer torsional flex allows quick engagement and the board is still a mid-flex for me. The addition of multi camber combines traditional camber and reverse camber for a good combination of stability and playfulness on the mountain. The Multi Camber Boyfriend has a traditional camber between the bindings for pop and a 3mm rise of reverse camber out to the contact points for fun, float in snow and hook free ride. Turning: Consistent turns and easy to engage were my notes on the Boyfriend. The sidecut was quick and it was easy to ride on the shorter turns but could hold a long turn when needed. It was good riding a couple cm’s bigger than the last time and it helped on the turning capabilities to have the longer effective edge. Stable: […]

Location: Mission Ridge, WA Snow Conditions: Softpacked to fresh snow on groomers. Setup: I rode the GNU B-Pro with Union Trilogy bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155 First Impression: There’s good reason why this is the longest running women’s pro model board but seriously the 2013 graphics are AMAZING. Weight: Average. Flex: The B-Pro is on the higher end of a medium flex for women. It’s definitely built for mountain handling with a stiffer flex and the camber zones but the banana tech between the feet gives it good torsional ease and engagement edge to edge. The B-Pro features C2 BTX technology which is banana rocker between the bindings and camber from the inserts to the contact points. It offers the playfulness of rocker but with the stability of camber. Turning: Probably one of the best features of the B-Pro is the turning handling. Even if you want to take it easy on this board, you certainly can. It’s easy to engage into turns but without being too aggressive. It’s smooth handling to get each turn and then lets you play with the turn you’d like. You can go higher on edge to engage into short quick […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the K2 Highlite with K2 Auto Agogo bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 152cm First Impression: Light but aggressive and built for charging. Weight: Lighter than average. Flex: Stiffer flex underneath the bindings, torsionally has some forgiveness to the board and longitudinally some snap and aggressive riding. The nose was a tad softer so you could keep the nose up and stay back on the board for powder days. Overall on the stiffer end, it’s meant for freeriding and all mountain cruising. The Highlite has K2?s all mountain rocker which is 70% flat and 30% rocker. Basically flat between the bindings to almost the last insert, then rocker from there to the contact points. It also features tweekend, a new concept that gives you more surface area to press, float and land on. Turning: Reminded me of the Eco Pop in the carving and handling, quick and initiating turns very easily on the mountain. Once into a turn, it really gripped the snow and held a carve throughout the whole progression of the turn. I really liked the longer drawn out turns but it was […]

Setup: I rode the GNU Ladies Choice with GNU B-Free bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 151.5cm. First Impression: Offering up the whole mountain on a platter and giving you a deck that can handle whatever you give it. Weight: Average. Flex: The Ladies Choice is a good medium flex range snowboard for women. It’s a stiffer flex underfoot to help with stability on landings with a softer torsional flex between the bindings. Overall it’s a mid range for flex, it’s not a soft board by any means and it’s not a stiff board. It’s right in the middle which is perfect for handling everything from park to mountain freeriding. The Ladies Choice features a C2 BTX technology which is banana rocker between the bindings and camber from the inserts to the contact points. Turning: Easy to initiate into turns, making it a bit more forgiving of a ride than I expected. But once into turns, you had total control of the aggressiveness of the handling into each turn. The board was quick and responsive for shorter quicker turns and could still ride […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Arbor Swoon with NOW IPO bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: Offering up easy all mountain riding that you can count on. Weight: Average. Flex: The Swoon fits the medium flex description to a T. It’s longitudinally stiffer so you still have a stable ride down the mountain. The torsional flex between the bindings is a bit softer so you can get quick response from edge to edge. Overall it’s a pretty easy board to ride and isn’t too aggressive. The swoon has the mountain system reverse camber which has parabolic rocker which has more rocker in the center of the board and decreases the rocker to the tip and tail of the board. It’s designed for more mountain riding with the flex. Turning: Turning on the Swoon is easy to engage and an easy board to ride without being too intimidating. You could definitely just enjoy the ride without any consequences on this board. Easy turns on the longer drawn out S turns and when you wanted quick turns, you’d get them. Stable: The grip-tech noticeably helped on the icy hardpacked […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Feelgood Flying V with Burton Diode bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: Continues to be a great board for all mountain female riders Weight: Average. Flex: Softer torsional flex between the bindings so the board is super easy to turn but stiffer flex underneath and towards the tip/tail for stability for freeriding. The carbon I-beam definitely helps for the pop and stability so you can charge the mountain. The Feelgood comes with camber or flying V, I rode the Flying V model with reverse camber. V-rocker between the feet and underneath the feet is camber zones and rocker towards the tip and tail. Turning: The Feelgood has always been a responsive carving board and quick to get edge to edge while riding. On the softer snow, it really held an edge into each turn and offered up a good mix of turns without any catches or problems. On shorter turns, it was quick and nimble. On the icy spots, I had an issue with the board holding an edge and not slipping out but that was the only issue with it […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Lip-Stick with Burton Stilletto bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 149cm. First Impression: Flat Top definitely suits the Lip-Stick! Weight: Average. Flex: Now that the Lip-Stick is a Flat Top, the board still offers a fun playful park flex for the ladies. It’s softer on the nose and tail where you get the playfulness of rocker but with the stiffer flex between the bindings to give you stability on the flat profile. Easier torsional flex to make turning easier. The Lip-Stick LTD for next year comes with Flat Top which is a flat profile between the feet for better stability and a tail/tip kick up with early rise for playfulness. Turning: The Lip-Stick was quick and on point with turning. The Flat Top still let it be an easy board to flex and maneuver into each turn. The Lip-Stick could handle the longer drawn out S turns but also was very good torsional flex but quick shorter turns. Stable: This is where the Flat Top excels from previous years. The board can handle and grip on the icy hardpacked conditions despite being a park softer […]

First Impression: As long as I don’t look down, I feel pretty good on this thing and it’s just plain fun to ride. Weight: Average. Flex: The Nug offers up the mountain in a smaller size and playfulness in big doses. The Nug is a medium flex board but with the softer nose and tail combined with V-rocker and stiffer flex underfoot, you get a board that’s playful but can still handle turns and the rest of the mountain. Torsionally it’s a bit softer which makes it easy to get quick response for each turn. The Nug has V-rocker, a centered rocker between the feet and additional rockers outside each foot that lift the tail and tip completely off the snow. Turning: Handled with quickness and response for shorter radius turns while still able to do a long drawn out turn down the slopes. The effective edge on the board rides like a longer board so you don’t feel like you are on a board that can’t turn. The frostbite edges did good holding […]

Size: 154cm. First Impression: Camber compliments the Fortress with a charging handling for the whole mountain. Weight: Lighter than average. Flex: The Fortress rode longitudinally stiffer with a slight torsional softness to make it capable of quick turns. The flex is symmetrical from tip to tail for a balanced ride and rode just like that down the mountain. The board is lighter than average but still offers good pop and longitudinally stiffer flex for stability on the mountain. The Fortress is traditional camber for a continuous and consistent ride down the mountain. Quick stops were no problem and you could definitely spray up snow at someone very easily with this board and the handling. Stable: I really think the Fortress did the best as speed and stability thanks to the camber. By the time I got on the board conditions were really icy and bumpy throughout […]
