Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the YES Greats with Salomon Absolute bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 158 cm First Impression: This is the closest I’ll get to riding with Craig Kelly. Great board with a damn good graphic series to pay tribute to snowboarding’s greats. Weight: Average. Flex: The YES Greats offers up a more stiffer torsional flex with the camber between the bindings and a softer more playful flex towards the nose/tail where the rocker is. The combination gives it a really stable ride between the bindings with a playful aspect to the nose/tail. Overall it felt on the stiffer end for mountain freestyle but still very capable of all mountain riding from park to groomers. The Greats feature camrock which is slight camber between the binding areas with variable degrees of rocker outside the stance. Turning: The camrock helps make the board relatively easy to get on edge with the lifted up contact points. I didn’t catch into any of the turns, pretty smooth going and had the ability to handle a range of turns. Thanks to the stiffer flex, the longer S turns were my favorite.
Instead of saying no, snowboarders are now saying YES. It is a passion, a way of living life, of being in a natural habitat, of snowboarding and having fun. JP, DCP and Romain are the riders behind the brand and pour their heart and soul into YES. Snowboards. For 2013, YES honors the greats of snowboarding and introduces a new board called the 420 for deep powder slashing. Models include the Greats, The Public, Jackpot, Basic, TDF, Pick Your Line, 420, Basic Jr and Trouble. For tech, they offer a mix of camrock, powrock, reverse banana and flatrock. YES Pick Your Line The Pick Your Line is what DCP has been using to pull rank on the rest of us for a couple of years now. A directional shape loaded with freeride camrock, this board is deadly enough to tackle legitimate lines and handle speed with authority. Features directional camrock, med/stiff + directional flex, directional and tragna maction, sintered die cut base, carbon and kevlar and FLB glass, master composite core, rubber and ABS sidewalls.
Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked morning snow to softpacked slushy afternoon snow. Setup: I rode the YES Big City with Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 156cm. First Impression: Don’t let the graphics or name fool you. This board is not meant for city riders, it’s an aggressive mountain board. Weight: Average Flex: The Big City is described as a medium flex but it’s on the stiffer flex end compared to most boards. It’s a directional twin with a stiffer longitdinally and torsional flex. It has a softer nose to help with float in powder. It’s overall on the stiffer end for a freestyle board. The Big City has freeride camrock which means camber between the bindings then more rocker in the nose of the board for added float, less rocker in the tail of the board. The freeride camrock is also setback on the board. Turning: This is an aggressive snowboard. It’s quick, unforgiving and needs a rider who knows how to ride. The sidecut is very snappy and will want quickness each time you lay it on edge. It was definitely a board that you can’t go easy on, it requires no lazyness […]

Three years ago big name riders were dropped from a big name brand but instead of going quietly and saying no, they created YES Snowboards. Now when you watch Absinthe’s latest film, the constant array of YES snowboards is present and screaming loud across the screen. JP, DCP and Romain are the riders behind the brand but they’ve acquired team riders like Tadashi Fuse and Madison Ellsworth to their family. For 2012, YES brings you the great women of history, the basic, big city (Romain’s), pick your line (DCP’s), TDF (Tadashi’s) and Jackpot (JP’s). The boards come in regular camber and some boards in cam-rock (camber between the bindings, rocker outside of the bindings). YES The Basic Sometimes simple ideas make things look good. All bases and topsheets come in 2 different combinations using their respective length colors. Regular camber or camrock, true twin, master composite wood core, multi, 6000 base, diamond stone finish, strategic carbon placement, die-cut.
Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to icy groomers to leftover powder Setup: I rode the YES Pick Your Line with Union Milan bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 156cm. First Impression: The Pick Your Line is as aggressive as the name, pick your line and it’ll hold it down the mountain. Weight: Average Flex: The PYL has a stiffer flex longitudinally with a tad softer torsional flex. Overall it’s a stiffer snowboard with a softer nose and stiffer tail with a lot of response and snap to it. Overall, it’s a quick board and the camrock gives you the stability of camber but with the added benefits of rocker so you get more float and a bit more forgiving on the contact points. The PYL has directional camrock which means camber between the bindings then rocker after the bindings. The directional camrock is setback to give more float in powder. Turning: Very quick edge to edge on this board and aggressive into turns on the mountain. Short turns felt just as comfortable as the longer radius turns, both were smooth and the edgehold gripped the hardpacked conditions of the day. Stable: The PYL offers […]

Setup: I rode the YES Great Dudes with Union Flite bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 154cm. First Impression: Definitely the more playful YES board over the asym I rode last year from YES. Weight: average Flex: The great dudes took some adjustment because when I played with it on flat surface it seemed really soft but that was only the nose and tail where the rocker is. Between the bindings it was a tad stiffer with the camber but that made the ride down the mountain more able to handle freeriding. It was torsionally stiffer so it never felt out of control too soft when I rode with it. When I wanted to play around, the tail was easier to butter on and still had that playful feeling to it. The flex also changes with size, so I recognize the 154cm was going to be softer than the 156 I took out last year. Turning: I found the board relatively easy to get on edge, the contact points were lifted up by the rocker on the nose/tail so that made […]

Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself Chad: I am a happy husband and father of 2 children, blessed to be living the dream and living in Bellingham WA, proud to call Mt Baker my home. I absolutely love snowboarding and I have made a life out of working in the shred industry. I am a fan of hiking lines at Mt Baker and love the Pacific Northwest and the natural terrain and riding we have here, we are very lucky to call this our backyard. Shay: What is your job title? Chad: US Sales Manager/Axe Swinger YES.NOWBOARD [singlepic id=6411 w=400 h=300 float=] Shay: How did you get your start in the industry, what opened up more opportunities for you? Chad: A actually started in retail (The Erie Sport Store) and was selling snowboards and skis, then when the boom really hit in the early 90’s our store focused on buying more snowboards and I was riding every night after work, practicing all the tricks in the vids and doing well in contests. The local K2 rep at the time (Jeff Clark) got me hooked up on K2 Snowboards, then I got hooked up with Swag, Dragon and Vans […]
