Grenade Games 5 continued on with the Superpipe Finals on Blackcomb Mountain with pros ripping, spinning, jibbing and bonking in the superpipe.
I arrived on the scene at noon when it was still quiet in the pipe, a couple people practicing and just a couple spectators. Eventually both fences of the superpipe would fill up with people and the media would arrive on the scene to capture every shot.
I made a mini video of the event, just captured some of the riders through the pipe and a what shay does when she’s bored mini clip at the very end.
I was able to stand right on the superpipe deck, close enough to touch the athletes and get some shots of the action.
Louie Vito in action
Wyatt Caldwell was representing with a MTNOPS Levianthan in the superpipe
Scotty Arnold hiking up

Ah yes, it could be you.
Louie growling on the way up
One of the riders slashing the snow
Dustin Craven earned third place in the superpipe
I certainly wasn’t expecting to be taken aback by Sammy, but he was getting huge air and just threw down above some of the pipe riders.
Tj Schneider on the scene and unlike this photo, the sweetest guy to be around. It was funny to hear that the reason he doesn’t have a shayboarder.com sticker is because we’re competition. News to my ears…so from now on, its on…Tj it’s on!
Tj invoked fear in the photographers, I watched him air out and almost land on one so each run I held my breath hoping he wouldn’t do the same to me. Luckily for me, he didn’t and I got some fun shots of him shredding his heart out.
Tj threw down, stole the show, won the crowd’s applause and earned him the #1 title in the Grenade Superpipe.
The Grenade Pinata still intact
Towards the end of the event, the Grenade Pinata was broken apart by Lucas Magoon who gave a bunch of the goodies to the crowd.
Crazy busy at the base of the superpipe as the results came out for top 3 riders
The man of the hour and it was all captured on Snowboard Realms.
Tj took home the wooden sculpture and some cash!
While waiting to get the Tj shot at the end and congrats the winner, I met James Sullivan who was the online editor for Future Snowboarding Mag (RIP). It was cool to talk with someone who had a good part in the online community and mag I was fond of and rad that he knows shayboarder.com.
Definitely being a blogger at events is humbling because I don’t have a amazing photo setup, I don’t bro down it up and I just attend because I want to not because I’m paid to. Like being the little fish in a big pond, but hey I enjoy it and damn events like today seeing people throw down just feet away make it a lot of fun!
